Success is spelled R-E-A-D!

Be sure to read 20 minutes each night to improve your reading skills.

I am excited to be working with your student in the Harcourt reading series. It has a rich variety of literature stories and skills instruction that help students master the state standards for 5th grade and differentiate instruction.  The literacy block combines the use of guided reading strategies, leveled readers, and elements of The Daily 5, such as Listen to Reading, Read to Someone, Read to Self and the use of Response to Reading. The McGraw-Hill series is also used to enrich the reading curriculum. This year we are also focusing on text-tagging and close reading as a way to build our responses to essay and comprehension questions in daily work as well as on NeSA-R.
